Box making – just as hard as it looks. Have we mentioned before at Slow Industries how difficult it is to measure properly, cut straight lines and – holy mother of Jesus – make things square? That’s why all these photos with the cutting mat are at an angle. It makes it more difficult for you, the reader, to tell just how off things might be. Box making, therefore, is an Olympian challenge for us, since it involves measuring, cutting and squaring all at once! (Not to mention phenomenal amounts of adhesive.)

The three volumes of Cetology require a fairly large, flat box with three separate compartments. Here you see the component pieces of board lined in Strathmore Script. Not only does this make everything look neat and tidy, it helps the books slide smoothly into the box. (more…)

Photographic Odyssey

Slow Industries strives for perfection in all pursuits, but sometimes our workforce lacks the requisite skills for success. Take photography, for instance. We constantly struggle to have great photos, and often beat ourselves up at night after admiring the awesome photos at Roll And Tumble Press or A. Favorite Design. This week, taking advantage of a serious sweet tooth attack and the first sunny day in what feels like months, we finally had a satisfying time re-shooting some of our favorite projects. (more…)
